About

Hello and welcome!

We are a virtual and in-person Community Art Studio providing beginner art classes to the San Antonio Community and beyond.

Our mission is to create a better world through art. Many of the ills of the world can be traced to "hurt people, hurt people." But, it is also true that "healed people, heal people." Through the healing power of art and community, we aim to encourage healing and transformation and grow a kinder world.

We support our mission by creating spaces for people to explore art and unite in community and creativity. Strong communities provide a sense of belonging, trust, and connection. Building solid communities will create a better world.

We invite you to join us on this mission! Sign up for our newsletter and find us on your favorite social media.

Salina Shelton, Art Therapist

Salina Shelton is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist. She works with adults who experience chronic pain, religious or medical trauma, childhood trauma and stage of life changes. As a Professional Counselor, she has been in private practice since 2016. Since then she has facilitated professional development workshops on chronic pain, grief, and art therapy.

Like many others, Salina came to art later in life when she found herself in a local community art class. This experience inspired her to return to school, complete her art degree, and become an art therapist. Salina has found expressive art, journaling and community support to be powerful tools in her journey living with chronic pain. She founded Grow Creative in an effort to share the healing power of art through community support groups, consultation, and art classes. Salina is currently training to become a Certified MARI Teacher.

She enjoys film photography (B&W), printmaking, bookmaking and art journaling. She has presented work in local juried and non-juried shows. As an artist Salina is inspired by the strength we find within ourselves when we come together to support one another, the spiritual energy all around us, and the incredible tapestry we weave when we connect with ourselves, each other, and the planet.

“what we see in the world is no more and no less a reflection of what is unseen inside of ourselves.”

Welcome to Grow Creative, a thriving community art studio dedicated to fostering self-care, personal growth, and transformative healing. We believe in the power of art as a form of healing, a concept we fondly refer to as Art Medicine.

Here at Grow Creative, we specialize in harnessing creativity to illuminate the path towards self-discovery, exploring the depth of our feelings, thoughts, and experiences. We are a sanctuary for anyone seeking to navigate and heal from life's challenges including anxiety, depression, and childhood trauma. Our classes, both online and in-person, provide a safe, supportive space where you can express, process, and overcome.

Our philosophy is rooted in the idea that change begins within. We advocate for self-compassion, establishing healthy boundaries, and fostering intuition - vital tools in overcoming internalized oppressive thoughts. Through our community, we provide a platform for you to grow and evolve, eventually becoming a beacon of healing for others.

With Grow Creative, you are not only embarking on a personal healing journey but also contributing to a transformative ripple effect. Each stroke of your brush on canvas contributes to a better, more harmonious world. Because in healing ourselves, we're also healing our communities and our planet.

Join us in the Grow Creative journey, where we use art to nurture ourselves, heal our wounds, and change the world, one canvas at a time.
