Book Arts
For the love of books
You may have seen book making videos online, or read tutorials, but aren’t sure where to start. Start here! We provide all the supplies needed, including hands-on instruction to create a coptic bound journal with either watercolor or mixed media paper. From there you have the option of continuing exploration into printmaking with lino cut tools and linoleum or you can delve into working in your own handmade journal.

This event is both a class and an open studio. The facilitator will offer a brief introduction to book arts. After that, side by side instruction covering supplies, safety, and step by step instruction in Coptic book binding and/or lino cutting is available for those who would like a hands on lesson, and supplies are available for those who may be working on a Book Art project of their own.
This class is designed to be encouraging and supportive for the true beginner. No need to rush. Experienced book makers and printmakers are welcome to work at their own pace. There is always something to learn from others, so if you have tips to share, they are always welcome.
After completing a project, students are encouraged to continue exploration into printmaking with lino cut tools and linoleum or you can delve into working in your own handmade journal. Of course you can always make another book!
Supplies are available for you to explore creating your own journal with a variety of papers including mixed media and watercolor paper. Once you have completed your journal, there is a variety of supplies to begin creating. A selection of reference books will be available to draw inspiration from.
Participants may choose to explore a different type of binding than coptic. If that is the case, please let Salina know 2 weeks before class so she can have materials ready.
